The PMO Conference brings together PMO practitioners from around the world and it was great to see everyone again in person. There was great energy throughout the day, and we got to enjoy some inspiring speakers and engaging breakout sessions.
Here are our highlights from this year’s conference.
The PMO Conference is curated and designed for PMO practitioners. Focused on portfolio, programme, and project offices, the PMO Conference is all about learning more. From a full programme of PMO expert speakers, a dedicated exhibition full of PMO portfolio management software and services, and time to network with new PMO contacts or reconnect with friends and ex-colleagues, the day is 100% PMO focused.
This year, the conference was hosted in a new location — the Mermaid Conference venue at Blackfriars. This new venue allowed everyone to enjoy a live conference with social distancing whilst enjoying amazing views of the River Thames.
Opening keynote
One of the biggest projects in the world has been going on before our eyes over the last 18 months. Learning the story behind the PMO team that managed the COVID-19 vaccination deployment was truly inspirational. Delivered by Mark Angus and Liz Howarth, we learned how this unique and life-saving project came together.
3 Things we learned from the PMO Conference 2021
- You can't replace in-person events. People are still keen to attend, network and learn from each other's PMO experience.
- PMOs are still facing the same challenges: disconnected spreadsheets, inefficient manual processes, and PowerPoint reporting.
- Most organisations are using Microsoft Cloud but are unaware of the possibilities available to them. Microsoft Cloud is everywhere and the interest is huge — more so since the pandemic and remote working has become the norm.
Our very own Gero Renker gave a whirlwind tour of services in Microsoft’s Power Platform. He explained how you can combine them with collaboration and PMO work management software such as Teams, Project, and Planner to transform your PMO.
Anyone whose organisation has declared a ‘Microsoft Cloud First’ strategy can harness those Microsoft services for PPM and drive digital transformation. So, before you turn to a third-party project portfolio management software, discover the possibilities in your own Microsoft tenant.
The delegates
300 delegates joined us at the PMO Conference this year and everyone enjoyed the chance to get together after so long apart. It gave us all a chance to have enlightening conversations with everything that has been happening in the PMO world. Everyone was engaged, which gave the whole day great energy.
